Here's this scenario:
You install a non-Ehglish version of Ubuntu (e.g. Greek). During installation,
Ubuntu adds the related keyboard layout in addition to the standard one (in
this case the Greek one) and makes sure that the shortcut for switching layouts
is Alt+Shift. However, there is no clue (unless you type something on a text
editor) which keyboard layout you are using, unless you add the language applet
manually both in GNOME and KDE.
