If I delete the errant panel and create a new one on the right edge identical to the one deleted, it stays there properly. After shutdown and restart, it will again be on the left (wrong) side. This may be related to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome- applets/+bug/477693 I use four panels: TOP: Menus, various apps and geyes, expanded BOTTOM: multiple geyes to assist in locating mouse, expanded LEFT: unexpanded panel with tabs running window selector, normally closed RIGHT: unexpanded panel with tabs running desktop selector, normally closed I use Compiz Fusion and Emerald window decorator. This behavior did not occur in 9.04.
