Thank you for opening this bug and helping make Ubuntu better.
I am afraid there is a misunderstanding here -- you are considering
anything that starts with 'evolution' as part of the mail client. This
is not correct. If you do not need, or want, the Evolution *Mail*
client, you should select, on synaptic, *just* the 'evolution' package.
Then the Evolution Mail client, and all of its dependent packages, will
be removed.
Evolution-data-server and its associated libraries are needed by other
Gnome applications -- as you noted. They are *NOT* exclusive of the
Evolution Mail client; in fact, they are not part of the Mail client.
Even if you were to never have selected Evolution, e-d-s (and associated
libraries) would still be installed as pre-requisite dependencies for
other packages.
As such, closing this bug INVALID. Please reopen if you do not agree
with my decision.
