This bug is still present in Ubuntu Karmic - evolution completely crashes when I press Contacts button to see my contacts. The same was with the previous ubuntu releases (interpid, jaunty - I had them all installed before too). So, it appears that this bug is known since 2007 and still wasn't repaired? Regards, Greya
