I thought about fancying up my Gnome desktop by adding 2 new panels to
it on the left and right side of the screen. I did this, then I decided
to auto-hide the left, right, and top panels and leave the bottom
exposed. I noticed that the left and right bars were not popping out
like they should have and so I thought that I could possibly make the
left panel pop up by moving the top panel to the left side WHILE they
were still in auto-hide. Once I did this, everything excluding the mouse
cursor froze and I just figured a simple reboot would repair them. This,
unfortunately, did not happen. When attempting to log into a Gnome
session, the screen hung on the "Ubuntu" splash loading
screen...thing... and only the mouse appeared. I even tried Failsafe
Gnome and it pretty much did the same thing except I could not click on
jack squat :P. It was almost like if it was just being dumb and posted a
.gif version of a screenshot of my desktop haha. I tried KDE but it just
seemed too glitchy. One of my comrades attempted to fix the problem with
the following procedures:

Command line manipulation to connect to the wireless router I was using and it
refused to connect and refuse to give an IP.

P-killed Gnome session and it logged me out.

I planned on actually backing up my data and formatting the partition Ubuntu
Karmic is on. But I will not until I get a response in case if some logs need
to be seen...

IMMENSELY strange bug. Help would obviously be very appreciated!

Thanks!
