This is a bug in gvfs , as it should have a fallback icon even if the themes dont have an icon for the specific device. Note that , if humanity does not have an icon for nano then gvfs should display the icon from gnome or should have had an icon on its own as a fallback.
This is probably a small error in the icon name mentioned in gvfs itself. Since there is no such icon name in either humanity , gnome icon theme or even in gvfs , the image-missing icon is displayed. This bug is an upstream one and it would be quite helpful if somebody experiencing it could send the bug the to the people writing the software.
