Agreed, this is the "correct" behavior, however, I am not sure it is the "best" behavior. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I never quite right about it. Maybe it should fade away, or become translucent?
The original reporter's suggestion of having a "X" to close the notification is very Windows-esqe and is really only useful if the bubble was to remain up until the user acknowledges it.
