I can't still reproduce this. We'll have to see if others can reproduce it.

I have the music-applet in the panel, and followed your steps... I tried
enabling the IM status plugin and other plugins in Rhythmbox, also tried with
Pidgin running and not. Rhythmbox exited quite gracefully.
Do you have Pidgin/Empathy running or not?
