Unfortunately, don't have a newer system set up at this time. I was going to put a Jaunty or Karmic system together, but job outlook at the moment is shaky, so I had to postpone. I am shooting for 10.4 (I forget the name at the moment) when it comes out later this year.
Note that I was able to use KGhostView to look at this particular file and it looks better and prints fine, so it seems to be a combination of the software and perhaps a badly formed PDF. Some of the time, using evince, it crashes the printer. As noted, I also have problems with other PDFs, but that one file in particular is really bad. Thanks...
