Please open a terminal and type alsamixer and see if the mic is muted and unmute it. If that doesnot solve the problem can you please test if sound recorder records your voice. if sound recorder can record your voice then the issue might be empathy else it can be hardware/driver issue thanx. At last if the issue is empathy please send this bug upstream and provide us the link. Thanks
