This looks to me to be a problem with Nautilus (or whatever is providing
the delete->trash mechanism).
I suspect that it doesn't want to move files across mount points, as
this can take a long time (as compared to flipping a few inodes).
If your trash bin is in your encrypted Home, then to move a file from
/tmp to Trash means encrypting it (which might take a few seconds if the
file is big).
Some special case handling (or optional configuration) might be required
in Nautilus.
I'm assigning this bug to the Nautilus package, as I think that's what
provides the Trash bin.
