This bug is present on Karmic 64. Unchecking or removing the Gnome Login Sound program from Startup Programs in the StartUp Applications Window in Gnome 2.28.1 is not honored if you logout. If you restart it is honored on occasion but normally returns in time. Also, I'm not referring to the drum beat, but rather the Ubuntu login song that's played.
