This has been working properly for me for a few days. I haven't rebooted
in a while, so don't know if it will survive that. It was working
properly at about every other lid close, now it works consistently for
the last few days. I'll update if this problem comes back after a
reboot. I usually reboot at least once a month or so! :)

Here is the list of packages that may have changed since I had this
problem:

Completely removed the following packages:
python-ubuntuone-client
python-ubuntuone-storageprotocol
ubuntuone-client
ubuntuone-client-gnome

(could Ubuntu One be the problem? I killed it because they put a space
in the folder name--very dumb in my opinion)

Installed the following packages:
libpam0g-dev (1.1.0-2ubuntu1)
libpam-thinkfinger (0.3+r118-0ubuntu4)
libthinkfinger-dev (0.3+r118-0ubuntu4)
libthinkfinger-doc (0.3+r118-0ubuntu4)
libthinkfinger0 (0.3+r118-0ubuntu4)
thinkfinger-tools (0.3+r118-0ubuntu4)

(I finally got my fingerprint sensor working. Works for xscreensaver's
lock screen too, maybe that has an impact?)

Upgraded the following packages:
sudo (1.7.0-1ubuntu2) to 1.7.0-1ubuntu2.1
foomatic-filters (4.0.3-0ubuntu2.1) to 4.0.3-0ubuntu2.2
openoffice.org (1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1) to 1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1.1
openoffice.org-base (1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1) to 1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1.1

openoffice.org-calc (1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1) to 1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1.1

openoffice.org-filter-binfilter (1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1) to 1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1.1
openoffice.org-filter-mobiledev (1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1) to 1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1.1
openoffice.org-gnome (1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1) to 1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1.1
openoffice.org-gtk (1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1) to 1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1.1

openoffice.org-java-common (1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1) to 1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1.1
openoffice.org-math (1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1) to 1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1.1
openoffice.org-officebean (1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1) to 1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1.1

openoffice.org-writer (1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1) to 1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1.1
python-uno (1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1) to 1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1.1
ttf-opensymbol (1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1) to 1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1.1
uno-libs3 (1.5.1+OOo3.1.1-5ubuntu1) to 1.5.1+OOo3.1.1-5ubuntu1.1
ure (1.5.1+OOo3.1.1-5ubuntu1) to 1.5.1+OOo3.1.1-5ubuntu1.1

Also, I installed gnome-screensaver and removed xscreensaver, tried to
install screensaver-settings, that didn't seem to work so I completely
removed screensaver-settings and removed gnome-screensaver, and
reinstalled xscreensaver.

Maybe the monkeying I did with the screensaver had something to do with
this working now? Most of the upgrades were openoffice but maybe the
sudo upgrade could have something to do with this? Who knows--this is
weird.
