I can also confirm total machine lock-up during the 'drop shadow'. Yes I
can reproduce it, It has happened 4 times in the past 2 hours.
Resetting the whole machine was the only option. At one point, I
recognised failure was in process and was successful in activating the
system monitor and luckily killed the script-fu process, which brought
other running applications out of dark grey lock-up.

My set up is as follows...
Ubuntu Karmic 9.10, 64 bit, 8gb of ram, 53gb free drive space.
GIMP 2.6.7

To reproduce this follow these steps.

After launching gimp add text to a new image, alpha-to-selection, create
new layer, select that layer and choose filters->light and shadow->drop
shadow, click (ok) and intermittently watch the system fail.

At some point during the failure a dialogue box is drawn but never populates.
I have grown to adore GIMP, although it has been a long painful process to
realize it's capabilities.
I would look forward to this being fixed.
