Binary package hint: pulseaudio
Reproduction steps:
* play some mp3 in rhythmbox
* attach usb headphone
-> laptop speakers mute (ok)
-> headphone plays sound (ok)
-> change volume via sound applet or laptop function keys: visual feedback
shows change of volume, but actual sound volume does not change (not ok)
Workaround:
* go to sound preferences, select output tab
-> internal audio card is selected
* select headphone as output
-> volume control now works as expected
