Binary package hint: gnome-control-center
Boot LiveCD, try without installation.
In case you'd like to report a bug you'll recognize keyboard layout is US not
German.
You need to go to system preferences -> keyboard -> layout
(gnome-keyboard-properties)
in order to add your country or language.
Positive: Notification area shows the layout and it can be switched with one
click.
Expected: Keyboard is recognized without managing to search where and how it
can be changed.
Presume a new user which doesn't know anything about Ubuntu layout, wants to
test it and is missing this essential.
