I have over 20 clients on ubuntu. When I do the upgrade on their systems
they have all made the choice, they will all continue to have buttons on
the right.

If you can't "experiment" with new functionality with the buttons on the
right (by adding another button that replaces them when toggled) then
the experiment has already failed.

If you plan to move the buttons to the left make more space in between
them and the menu bar OR move the menu bar to the right to prevent
accidental pressing of users.

This is not meant to open up sores or create controversy, simply to
explain how 20+ users feel about it.
