You have been subscribed to a public bug:
I have "/sbin/shutdown -h 00:15" in crontab at 00:10. When I want to shutdown
my computer at -say- 00:12 however and I simply hit the button on the "session
indicator aplett (0.1)" it takes me to the login screen. Since shutdown
prevents new logins in the last five minutes before scheduled shutdown, you
can't go anywhere from there. Ctrl-Alt-F2 won't help since you can't login
there either.
I use Ubuntu 9.10; system is up to date.
Recreate:
sudo shutdown -h +5
-click shutdown button on menu
To solve it, I think, the button should run shutdown -c and then try
shutting down again.
