Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gnome-applets
Description: Ubuntu lucid (development branch)
Release: 10.04
gnome-applets:
Installed: 2.30.0-0ubuntu1
Candidate: 2.30.0-0ubuntu1
Steps to reproduce:
1) Right click on a free area in the panel and choose "Add to panel..."
2) Select "Main Menu" (NOT Menu Bar!!), and click Add
3) Click on the Main Menu Icon, and locate the longest menu (probably
System->Preferences)
4) Resize screen resolution to ensure that the longest menu does not fit in the
screen
5) Try to launch any item on the menu below the scroll area
What happens:
When the mouse enters the scroll area, the menu scrolls down.
However, when the mouse leaves the scroll area, the menu scrolls up, and the
last visible menu item (without any scrolling) is highlighted.
It appears to be impossible to launch menu items below the scroll area using
the mouse.
What is meant to happen:
When the mouse leaves the scroll area, the menu should not scroll up, and
visible menu items should be highlighted by the mouse.
It is possible to select these menu items using the keyboard, so the bug
appears to be something to do with the mouse leaving the scroll area.
This bug is not present in the Menu Bar applet. Thus, the behaviour in
the menu bar applet should be copied to the Main Menu applet.
This bug has a large impact on netbook users that are not using the
netbook remix ui, due to the low vertical resolution resulting in
scrolling menus, and the need to replace the Menu Bar with the Main Menu
applet to conserve space on the panel.
