Public bug reported: Binary package hint: empathy
Sorry for reporting again. It's not clear how to attach my system information and I don't see closed bugs in my list or the option to reopen a closed ticket. Anyways, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/501877 seems to be the same as my problem. It should have been fixed in a previous version, but seems to be genuinely broken again in my new version 2.30.0. Killing the process and restarting seems to resolve my issue.
