I recognised the following problem for the user root:
1) The sound preferences are not accessible using:
----System->Preferences->Sound
----gnome-volume-control-applet -> Sound Preferences
2) The volume applet does not work properly (it does not modify the
system volume)
3) After gdm the system does not play any entrance sound
However, I can play sounds and change volume from rhythmbox and totem
application.
