Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I am not sure if this is reported in the right package. It is here
because it involves gnome-keyboard-properties , however it also involves
xkb.

It seems that under Lucid (problem occurred with upgrade), having the
Gujarati language keyboard layout (as one of the possible layouts in the
layout switcher) causes an error in xkb and renders it impossible to
enter text.

If gujarati is listed in the system-wide defaults, then the gdm login
screen will not support any keyboard input. However, the keyboard will
work in any user accounts which do not include the Gujarati layout as
one of the switchable options. The gujarati layout does not have to be
selected for the bug to occur, it needs only to be among the switchable
options.

I do not know if this bug applies to other "exotic" layouts (i.e. not
western like EN, FR).

The problem of not being able to enter any text was solved by removing
Gujarati from the available options, first for the user account, then
for the gdm login screen by applying system-wide.

I have attached the kxb error that occurred on login to the affected
account. (I have 2 user accounts, one affected [guj, fr, us] and one not
[fr, us].)
