All the desktop icons suddenly disappeared. I tried to open the file
browser but it opens a screen but immediately closes. It opens and
closes very fast like a flash. The last installation I made was Ubuntu
one so I removed it and restarted. It didn't help. The problem is the
same. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala and GNOME 2.28.1 all update
manager files have been installed as of today. The problem existed prior
to the last update.
I can open applications such as Abiword and it will browse the
directories fine. The system file browser, however, simply won't work if
I try to open anything through the "places" drop down menu. When I try
to open "Tracker" it will not acknowledge that anything at all is on the
hard drive. Firefox works OK (that is why I am here) but any of the
shell programs don't seem to open and run. Although I like the clean
desktop look, I need to have the icons and file browser back. I just
don't know enough yet to be able to figure it out and contribute the
fix. I hate being a noob.
