Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

I use Ubuntu 9.10
Packages: HPLIP 3.9.8-1ubuntu2, CUPS 3.9.8-1ubuntu2

I bought an HP_Laserjet_P1005 usb printer.
I installed it as was explained in some site.
I expected the printer to print.
What happened was that at first it did print but then it changed behavior to
the following:
When I boot the machine it comes with the following error: HPLIP Device Status
HP_Laserjet_P1005 Printer (BC1PRWZ) Device communication error (5012) and the
device is stopped in HP Device manager (see attached pic
rothfarb.2010Apr13.8-41.1.png)
When I tried to enter CUPS from HP Device manager i got an error: Unable to
open device hp:/usb/HP_Laserjet_P1005?serial=BCPRWZ (see attached pic
rothfarb.2010Apr13.8-43.2.png).
The print queue is left with one old print jobs in status processing and the
others in status pending.
I tried to reactivate the printer but it came with the same error.
I tried to stop/start the printer and disconnect/connect the usb plug. It did
not change.

Thank you
Joshua Rothfarb
