I haven't tried the proposed patch, I just want to note something I noticed today:
Maximized window underneath ⎽☐☒ Non-maximized window on top ⎽☐☒ I tried to click on the close button of a not-maximized window. I saw the close button of the maximized window underneath it getting highlighted + clicked even though that button wasn't below the mouse!
