I have the same problem. It is happening with all applications I tested, including open office, firefox and gedit. When I run them as root with gksu, their behavior is natural and fast. As you can see in the imagem attached, there were three cpu peaks, all of them happenend when I changed the folder in the file dialog. I didn't test with another user except for root.
