Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

When /home mounted on nfs gdm-simple-greeter hangs.
It isn't possible to login (the field where facebrowser should appear is empty)
nor to shutdown / reboot .. the machine (the button that open the menu with
this options is missing), but you can set accessibiliy option or use
alt-ctrl-f1 to switch to vt1.

When /home is not mounted (in this case it is empty) everything is fine,
even last logged-in user is shown in facebrowser, and you can logg in
(Ok there are errors because of missing $HOME)

When you boot without mounted /home (gdm-simple-greeter is looking as it
should), switch to vt1 and mount /home manually, facebrowser and the
button with shutdown, etc.. disappears. From vt1 you can change to the
home directories and see every homdir. Also, you can su to the desired
user and run startx to get a functional desktop.

This is an fresh installed Ubuntu 9.10.
/etc/passwd does not contains users
users are retrived from ldap
used nfs version is 4
the home directory resides on a separate ext3 partition

** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
