i updated my system to the last 96.x*.17 nvidia driver (ti 4200 graphics).
Since yesterday i'm able to login to X using the proprietary driver.
Now if i open the tool for changing the desktop appearance and switch to
the 'background' tab, the desktop almost freezes.
I usualy use a vertical gradient or a single colour
The CPU load rises to 99%.
The load remains high for about a minute
After this time it changes to normal.
Also if the tool is closed, the cpu load returns to normal.
The desktop will almost freeze again for a minute, if a different
background gets selected while inside the tab.
