Thanks for your report. I think you suffer from bug 546874, which has
recently been fixed in Lucid. Please run 'passwd' from a console an try
changing your password. If you get a "System error", then that's the
same issue, and upgrading your system should be enough.
You may as well upgrade your system first, and retry using the graphical
tools.
