In Ubuntu 10.04 once i lock the screen and turn off the monitor and let
the computer sit until it becomes idle the computer will lock up and not
display the login screen after either keyboard or mouse activity (the
mouse cursor will be displayed and move but there is nothing but a black
backdrop. To resolve this problem the computer has to be turned off and
back on.
