I join my voice to this bug. I'm a using a 24" display at 1920x1200.
It's very unpleasant when I want to resize window. I used the tricks to edit 
theme file and add border... It show a ugly side grip, but i'm happy to have 
them.

The initial suggestion of "invisible grip area larger than visible
border" seems very good to me.

Note: I tried KDE, XFCE and Windows 7, but only gnome/ubuntu desktop let
me feel as uncomfortable with window sizing, in default configuration.
It's, to my mind, a *really* urgent usability issue.
