I've noticed this slight problem in the Gnome Panels UI, and it's a
little annoying. When we make panels, we can set them to autohide. Now,
if we set this panel to have a solid colour and add transparency, the
transparency isn't properly retained when we bring the panel back up.
When we do, we get a washed out segment of the background as an overlay.
This isn't true transparency.
If I set a white panel with 50% transparency to autohide and I have
Chrome open (for example), I should be able to pull up that panel, and
still see what's under it.
As it is right now, having transparent panels is a useless option unless
one keeps the panel to show persistently.
I do feel this is a bit of a problem in the aesthetics department, and I
think this should be carefully considered. We may get around it, but it
really isn't working as it should.
