Have you installed the ubuntu-restricted-extras package?
BTW, there is also a Totem update available in the Hardy repositories
(totem 2.22.1-0ubuntu3) which updates Totem's youtube plugin code with
the following change:
* debian/patches/90_youtube_url_update.patch:
- upstream change to understand the new youtube url
