Binary package hint: nautilus
In my home directory I have the following directories:
Destop
bin
.config
.Skype
In /etc/default/locale I also have
LC_COLLATE="C"
The "ls -ad" command correctly shows:

----
as "." is ASCII 46, "A" is ASCII 65 and "a" is ASCII 97.
Nautilus, instead shows:
