Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-media
If you want to disable startup sounds, you currently have to go to System->Preferences->Startup Applications. This is a very strange place for it to be. If you want to change the startup or login sound, this is even harder to do. The logical place for this kind of configuration to be is in System->Preferences->Sound. The dialog will need a bit of a redesign, although it currently has a good chunk of empty space so it may not be too difficult.
