Effecting me as well, but in my case the only update I can point to is a kernel upgrade. This could be a mis-match between X (or just GDM) and the recently upgraded kernel version number. The minor number went from 22 to 23 (that is the Ubuntu build number)... This has me locked out of my netbook! Because this bug can lock down an entire computer from use, it should be upgraded in severity!
