Widening the scope of updates was no help. An apparently new cdrdao was loaded, but no soap. The matter is not so urgent that I am going to wade through all the stuff in the cdrkit documentation to try and do this by hand. However, whatever is going on should be solved. I think brasero is looking for cdrdao in the wrong place. On my machine it is in /usr/bin. If brasero is looking anywhere else, it explains why it doesn't find it.
