I upgraded my family data and backup servers from 8.04 to 10.04. Both
servers are "happily living" in my basement and they don't have monitor,
keyboard or mouse, as I have previously maintained them remotely through
XDMCP.

OK - I was stupid as I did not find out this problem before updating. My
humble request is that XDMCP support (including GUI to switch it on)
would be returned to Ubuntu as soon as possible.

About safety issues with XDMCP - I am working in a very large IT company
and it is happily using XDMCP. Previously there was an option to use
either Citrix or XDMCP for remote access, but our IT department decided
to ramp down Citrix. So the safety issues aren't visible at least in a
closed production environment.
