Actually this is in progress, and this notification area will hopefully be finished in 11.04, but the wifi icon, if I understood well, will become consistent with the other things in already in 10.10, and as a matter of fact there is already a testing version of the network- indicator (install it from ppa:indicator-network-developers/ppa), replacing the wifi indicator, and a time and date indicator is also in progress. So stay tuned, and hopefully the notification area will become consistent. :)
