Ok I have more info that I didn't realize before. if I try to kill the gnome-panel that is running after login, the screen flashes and it seems as though it trys to restart but with no success and no erros so i run gnome-panel and it says: Cannot register the panel shell: there is already one running. But if I run gnome-panel with sudo then it works.
