If you launch the gnome-shell switcher, or even use alt+tab in gnome-
shell, observe that empathy, with contact list closed, has the contact
list window listed. Contrast this to transmission, which doesn't show
its main window in the list if it's not open already. Personally, I
prefer closed main windows of background apps to not show in the
switcher, though if the community decides otherwise (to have closed main
windows of background programs to show in the switcher lists), then I'm
okay with that too, as long as the behaviour is consistent (it isn't at
the moment).
