In bug 643118 the consequences are more serious, because g-s-d picks an unsupported mode instead of the preferred one, and the display is messed up. I understand the driver should not suggest broken modes, but what is g-s-d trying to do anyway? Should it not just keep the preferred mode that the X server set up?
