Binary package hint: vlc
mozilla-plugin-vlc provides native vlc plugin and as such, it should
conflict with totem-mozilla, which provides an emulated vlc plugin which
isn't really compatible. To make real vlc plugin to work, it should be
impossible to have both at the same time.
Example: Finnish online TV recorder service "Elisa Viihde" uses VLC
plugin to playback recorded TV programs when viewed through a web
browser. If package totem-mozilla is installed, the service will not
work. If however, one removes package "totem-mozilla" and installs
"mozilla-plugin-vlc" instead, the service works just fine.
A suitable fix would be to change debian/rules of mozilla-plugin-vlc to
conflict with totem-mozilla. It could also provide "totem-mozilla" if
provided functionality is close enough.
If totem-mozilla provides any functionality over real mozilla-plugin-
vlc, the totem-mozilla should be splitted to vlc emulation and real
functionality and mozilla-plugin-vlc should be made conflicting with vlc
emulation plugin package only. I'm not personally aware of any
functionality provided by totem-mozilla that is not provided by mozilla-
plugin-vlc.
