Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

With the removal of the help launcher in Maverick (& the Evolution
launcher in Karmic), the Firefox launcher looks rather out of place in
the default desktop.

The presence of the Firefox logo appears to violate user interface
consistency as everything else in the top panel is monochrome. The icon
itself takes up more vertical space than any other icon in the top
panel.

While Firefox is arguably the most used application among a fairly wide
representation of users, it is by no means the only commonly used app.
In fact, a significant minority prefer to use alternate web-browsers
such as Google Chromium.

Therefore in order to promote consistency and to not excessively promote
any one app, I propose the removal of the Firefox launcher from the
default desktop.
