Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: evince
Evince reports success (exit code 0) even when it cannot display a
broken PDF file.
$ evince /usr/lib/R/site-library/Zelig/doc/static/intro.pdf
Error: PDF file is damaged - attempting to reconstruct xref table...
Error: Couldn't find trailer dictionary
Error: Couldn't read xref table
Error: PDF file is damaged - attempting to reconstruct xref table...
Error: Couldn't find trailer dictionary
Error: Couldn't read xref table
desk:~$ echo $?
0
$
Evince gives a big red banner saying "- Unable to open document PDF document
is damaged" but still reports success,
so that code like
for n in *.pdf
do
evince $n || echo $n
done
does not work as expected.
(Incidentally, that file is part of the r-cran-zelig package -- it appears to
be truncated.)
