Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

When a subscription request for Jabber is received, the dialog reads
"Subscription requested by <Contact name>". Without understanding of
Jabber, this is very confusing as to what it's asking. When I received
this I was unsure if this meant that <Contact> wanted to add me as a
contact, or if there was some other jabber technology in use. The text
should be reworded to be friendlier. Since jabber subscriptions are to
presence rather than purely the ability to communicate, maybe the dialog
should read
