Binary package hint: gnome-panel
It's very annoying that application I usually keep minimized in the
notification area are presented in the work area when the session is
restarted.
Gnome should provide a way to remember the state about minimization in
the notification area, and applications that can be minimized there
should provide an option to start them in the notification area.
And the gnome session should be started letting minimized in the
notification area the applications that were there when the session was
started.
