I have just come across this problem again with another machine (my previous post #107 was concerning a Compaq Presario A900 (bios f.33) )
This time it is with an HP Pavilion dv8000. again whilst on battery:- cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT1/current_now 0 so no drain info available so this time I installed Andy Eyre's libupower-glib1 and upower from Brian Rogers hand ppa and the system now has working estimates of discharge and charge.
