Sorry for taking so long to respond... I guess you are still having this issue? I did not have any particular special characters in mind, but various "non-latin" scripts like CJK languages or Cyrillic have been problematic in the past. I think that the issue is related to NTFS: How do you mount the drive (i.e. do you just connect it to your computer and it gets mounted automatically or did you have an entry in /etc/fstab or similar)? What's the output for this drive if you enter "mount" in a terminal?
