I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala.
As I would like to add acl support everytime a partition is mounted by
any user, I tried to add acl option to fstab by adding the following
line:
UUID=580214b3-c7b1-4d3e-bc91-acb1c08d4793 /media/data ext3
acl,users,noauto,errors=remount-ro 0 1
but this affects the gnome gui behavior.
Behavior of the gnome gui before adding the fstab line:
1. No mountig point (folder named data) is required under the media folder to
mount the device; once mounted by clicking on the upper menu Places > data, you
will find a folder named *data* under the media folder (containing the mounted
device) which will be automatically deleted after unmounting the device by
right-click on its desktop icon and selecting *unmount*.
2. The name of this not-removable device labeled *data* is listed only once
under the upper menu Places and clicking on it will produce an *authentication
required* to mount it.
Behavior of the gnome gui after adding the fstab line:
1. Clicking on the menu Places > data will produce an error like
Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:
mount: mount point /media/data does not exist
until a folder is created under the media folder to be used as mounting point.
This folder used as mounting point won't be deleted after unmounting the
device by right-click on its desktop icon and selecting *unmount*.
2. For the presence of this folder (mount point) the name of *data* will be
listed twice under the upper menu Places and clicking on one of them will
produce to mount directly the device without the *authentication required*.
